With summer already behind us, we’re launching FULL throttle into a new season! A new year brings opportunity for growth, discovery, and LOADS of fun with our Music in Motion dance and fitness family. As dancers, we’re constantly working to improve our technique and performance. To take our training to the next level, we must set dance goals for us to continue to reach our highest potential as movers and performers. For our adult fitness students, goals can push us to the next level physically and emotionally. They can keep us motivated to put our health first!
The beginning of the year is the PERFECT time to set these goals. Like any new beginning, it’s a fresh start to refocus our intentions and continue to leap forward. To guide you through goal setting, we’ve made a list of steps to help you discover and surpass your goals this year.
PS. Calling all dance parents: Do you have some serious fitness goals you want to achieve?? We are now offering our 10-Class Cards at 50% off for parents of dancers at Music In Motion! Read the post below, set your fitness goals, and we will see you in the classroom!
Step 1: Setting a Goal
While in class, notice what combinations you might stumble through or what steps seem challenging. Pick two types of goals, short and long term. A short-term goal is something you can accomplish in a short period of time such as memorizing a new step. A long-term goal like getting your middle splits ALL the way down, takes months of work and continuous stretching to master. If you’re struggling to pick a goal, ask your teacher for ideas.
Step 2: Ask the Teacher
After you’ve set your goal, check-in with your teacher, they are great resources! They can work with you on developing a plan in and outside the classroom. Your success is our success! Our FAVORITE thing to see is hardworking students grow throughout the year. We have a lot of fun at Music in Motion but we also work very hard. Don’t be afraid to ask for help, that’s what we’re here for!
Step 3: Make a Plan
Sit down with a piece of paper and write out your goals. Create a timeline with actionable steps for you to work on every day or week. Make sure these steps are reasonable when creating your plan, meaning you will actually stick with them. After you’ve thoroughly thought through each step, put your plan somewhere for safe keeping.
Step 4: Consistency and Accountability is Key
To constantly remind you of the plan you created, keep your goal or have a picture of your goal close to you. Try a bathroom mirror or your nightstand! Tell your friends and your family about your goal to hold yourself accountable. Surround yourself with reminders and supportive people to keep pushing your goal forward. Check off your list day by day and you’ll see the results for yourself! We also recommend checking in with your teachers from time to time. They can be GREAT accountability buddies!
Dance and fitness goals are difficult because they physically and mentally challenge us. But remember, just because something seems hard doesn’t mean it’s impossible. Remind yourself daily of how amazing you are and move forward with positivity. You’re not alone on this journey, Music in Motion is here to help you EVERY STEP of the way. It’s never too late to get started on your dance or fitness goals, so make your list today!
