The Music in Motion Dance Company started in 1982 with informal dance performances and classes in Virginia Beach and the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Over the years the dance company has continued to grow and develop to include more opportunities for the dancers and expand performances which include large community events, nursing homes and children’s hospitals. The Dance Company now has three levels: Junior, Apprentice, and Full.

Our company dancers also have the opportunity to extend their season by participating in 1 to 4 local competitions in the spring.  Competition level dancers may be cast in solo, duet, trio and group pieces choreographed by guest instructors. As a non-profit organization, we strive to keep costs low for families.

Music in Motion Dance Company is dedicated to producing classic and original choreography, as well as, providing a creative performing outlet for dancers ages 7-adult. Dancers are chosen based on their discipline, technique, and stage presence by the artistic directors or students can ask to audition March-May.

“Music in Motion Dance Company works to instill in its dancers both a sense of self as an artist through the discipline of dance as well as a sense of community. Every year, the Dance Company selects a local charity to support by raising funds and providing free community performances,”

- Shaye Arluk, Co-Artistic Director of the Music in Motion Dance Company.

This season the Dance Company has chosen to partner with the Pediatric Cancer Ward of CHKD, a department believes that children with cancer and blood disorders deserve personal care that addresses their unique emotional, spiritual and educational needs as well as their medical ones.
